Lake Country purchases two large lots next to Beasley Park – Kelowna News

District buys land near park

The District of Lake Country has purchased a large plot of land next to Beasley Park.

District council approved the purchase behind closed doors on Feb. 23, 2021, with the municipality just now disclosing the acquisition of 3371 and 3471 Woodsdale Road.

“When Council learned that property right across from Beasley Park was going up for sale, we immediately discussed opportunities for purchasing it to give the community more centrally-located public park space,” said Mayor James Baker.

“During the current pandemic, people have been quite vocal about how much they value the outdoor activity opportunities we have in Lake Country. So, using contributions collected through development for the parkland acquisition DCC program made the most sense in order to purchase this land which is identified within the Official Community Plan (OCP) as Parkland Conservation.”

The DCC program collects fees from developers building in the community, setting money aside for required infrastructure and parks to support those new residents.

It was not disclosed what the municipality paid for the property, but the two lots totalling 6.8 acres were listed for $525,000 and $850,000.
