This Spend Matters PRO Vendor Analysis provides an overview of Planergy and its P2P solution.

It has been interesting to watch the evolution of IT procurement for SME and MM over the last few years. The pandemic certainly accelerated the digitalization of SME and lower-middle-market companies. An example of this has been the AP automation processes. We have also observed an evolution in the investments of the solution providers for specific markets. Some that started by offering e-procurement solutions have now invested in developing AP automation-related capabilities and vice versa, i.e., those that started as AP automation solutions are finding value in developing a more comprehensive solution that integrates e-procurement processes

If we were to go back, only about six years ago, it would be hard to find P2P offerings for the small business and lower-middle-market companies; today, this is not the case. This leads us to believe that companies are looking to digitalize their P2P processes in a more comprehensive way and are looking for an accessible, unified solution for process automation that is easy to use, is quick to implement and generates the value that the business is searching for.

It is important to note that large enterprises are going on a different journey — more process orchestration, stakeholder collaboration, business intelligence, etc. — which is not our area of interest in this Vendor Analysis. Today, we are talking about Planergy, a company founded in 2008, which started with a purchasing solution and has since built a very promising P2P solution for small and lower-middle-market companies.

Here’s why Planergy matters:

  • To the market — The automation of purchasing and accounts payable processes is already a reality for small and lower-middle-market companies, doing so is no longer a luxury but an otherwise risk to the survival of the company. Before, the offering was limited, but nowadays it is more commonplace.
  • To customers — Planergy can be as nimble as desired, but it also has the potential to shape complex use cases for any industry or company.
  • To potential buyers — Planergy offers the main features that an SME or MM company seeks: experience (1,200 clients), affordable price, easy to use and quick to implement.

This Spend Matters PRO Vendor Analysis explains what differentiates this vendor, gives an overview of its capabilities and competitors, provides tech selection tips and closes with key analyst takeaways.
